My father was born in Kopyczynce in 1905 and I have still have cousins there with whom I correspond and have also visited...however there is a large gap in the history of the place and particular in respect to my family...I have not been able to find books or histories of what went on in Kopyczynce...would it be too presumptive of me to ask for references?...it would be much appreciated...I'd like to add that I alwa

Having two photographs of Zarudzie, one of their house, makes me want to go back and research the roots. I know that the church they lived by was turned into a Russian armory on the day my Grandparents were leaving Zarudzie and not to ever come back.

As a filmmaker I am considering going with my camera to the Podole area, and with God's help searching for anything to bring

Comment: Jan died in 1994, Maria in 1995. Their son Henryk was a young priest when he died of an internal infection caused by a burst-appendix in the late 1960's. Three of them are now buried in the Family Tomb in Krasnik Dolny. Graves of my Grandma's father, her two sisters and their aunt are also in the same cemetery.

Sharing this story makes tears run down my cheeks since my Grandparents always wanted to go back with me and show me the area of Zarudzie and Tarnopol. We never did that. I came

Comment: I remember stories being told of the war and the Banderowcy, also the trips my Grandparents took to Tarnopol to sell livestock and other goodies. Those were the good times until 1945 came and that's when the four of them (my father was born in the late 1940's) had to migrate from Zarudzie to Krasnik Dolny by Boleslawiec Slaski in the Ziemie Odzyskane (wroclawskie) with hundreds of other families.

Krasnik Dolny (Boleslawiec) is where I was born in 1978 and where my grandparents are buri

Comment: Very nice page. Reading it from "cover to cover" made me pull out old photos of my ancestors and write this story of them.

My Grandfather, Jan Lukasiewicz was born in 1907 in Zbaraz, and my grandma Maria Lukasiewicz (maiden name Kordyjaka; brother Michal, sisters Genowefa d.1997 and Franciszka d.1995) was born in 1917 in Zarudzie. They had three children: Henryk d.1969 (became a priest), Bronislawa (became a teacher) and Mieczyslaw (my father).

I remember stories being told of

Comment: I am researching my family and came across your site. My father was Francis Skikiewicz; his father Joseph Skikiewicz came through Ellis Island to McKeesport, Penn and then to Canada through Manitoba to farm in Saskatcehwan. He came from Galicia - I believe village spelling was Oryzkowcachi near Husiatyn. With so few people with this name (apparently), we are likely related! Carol.

However, in your piece on the Battle of Grunwald, you called Kryzyzacy - 'Crusaders'. This is a common mistake. Crusaders are Kryzowce (or something like that). This book's title translates as 'Teutonic Knights'.
