Short Description/History
The first mention of the
town dates back to the XII
century. The origin of the name according to a legend comes from a huge
deer stag which brought Jaroslaw wife out of the forest. She lost her
way during the hunt. On the place the Princess had seen the deer the prince
ordered a tower to be build. Eventualy around it a town was formed. In 1520 during one of
the Tartars raids Nastja Lisowska was captured. Nastya is known in history as
Roksolana. She became a wife of sultan Suleyman.
In 1535 the town was given the
Magdeburg Right.
The town received it's own seal in the form of a horn with letter
"R" in 1415.
In 1535 the town received
a Coat of Arms with the letter "R" for a period
of time until 1557 when it was replaced by letter "B" to signify the name "Bona". That
was the name of the wife of King Zygmont I.
